A bike tour, also suitable for less experienced bike tourists, through extensive mixed forests and river valleys with the opportunity to stop at cozy cafés, restaurants, and accommodations in the Harz.

Cycle through the unique and diverse natural and karst landscape between Bad Sachsa and Ellrich. In the karst landscape of the southern Harz, mainly dolomite and gypsum are found, which, due to high precipitation, have promoted the karstification of the landscape. Gypsum forms from anhydrite by water absorption, which develops so-called swelling caves underground, as it has a larger volume than anhydrite. When the gypsum subsequently breaks away, these caves can be uncovered and partially made accessible. Near the Sachsenstein, various of these caves of different sizes can be found. For this reason, they are now also called dwarf holes by the people of the Harz.

In Walkenried is the former Cistercian monastery with numerous ponds in the surroundings. Be sure to visit the old cloister, some preserved monastery annex buildings, and the monastery museum. Afterwards, you can refresh yourself at the monastery café for the next leg of your journey.
